  • The Verdugo Fire Academy is a partnership of Glendale Community College and the Glendale Fire Department. The Verdugo Fire Academy is a State Board of Fire Services Accredited Regional Training Program (ARTP) and Firefighter 1 and 2 Fire Academy.
  • Prerequisite – Completion of ‘Public Safety-First Aid and CPR (CA Health and Safety Code 1797.182). Glendale College EMT139, a current and valid National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) card, or a current and valid California State EMT card meet this requirement.
  • Recommended classes and experience that have proven to contribute to successful completion of the Fire Academy program; NR-EMT, Cal-JAC C-PAT, FCTC Written Exam & FCTC State Eligibility List, Fire 101, Fire 102, Fire 103, Fire 104, Fire 105, Fire 106, Fire 144, Fire Department Explorer, and Military experience.
  • Total units available: Fire 116 - 4.0, Fire 117 - 12.0, Fire 118 – 7.0, Fire 119 – 12.0 for a total of 35 Units
  • Estimated overall cost - $5,130.00 (see Estimated Fee Schedule – Class XXX – 2027)
  • Class days – Thursday evenings from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Holiday weekends off (see tentative Class XXX - 2027 schedule).
  • Class duration – 12-months, 808 hours. Includes lecture, lab, arduous physical activity, live fire exercises, and California Office of the State Fire Marshal Firefighter 1 & 2 certification testing.
  • A current CFFJAC C-PAT (Candidate Physical Abilities test) and a current NREMT certification required to be eligible for registration into Block IV - Fire 119 (These qualifications are a pre-requisite for Fire 119).
