The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is your gateway to federal, state, and school financial aid, including grants, work study, and loans. Students must apply every school year to continue to be considered for financial aid. Submit early to maximize aid opportunities, as many programs are first-come, first-served.

Who can Apply?

U.S. citizen, or eligible noncitizen

A U.S. national (includes natives of American Samoa or Swains Island), U.S. permanent resident (who has an I-151, I-551 or I-551C [Permanent Resident Card]), or an individual who has an Arrival-Departure Record (I-94) from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) showing one of the following designations:

  • "Refugee" 

  • "Asylum Granted" 

  • "Cuban-Haitian Entrant (Status Pending)"

  • "Conditional Entrant" (valid only if issued before April 1, 1980) 

  • Victims of human trafficking, T-visa (T-2, T-3, or T-4, etc.) holder 

  • "Parolee" (You must be paroled into the United States for at least one year and you must be able to provide evidence from the USCIS that you are in the United States for other than a temporary purpose and that you intend to become a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.) 
Education Requirement

Must have a high school diploma, GED, or approved equivalent 

Program of study Requirement

Must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an eligible degree or certificate program at a college or career school 
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Must maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by the school (typically includes GPA, course completion rate, and maximum time to complete program) 

Submitting your FAFSA early is important to maximize your financial aid opportunities.

Before starting your FAFSA, have the following information available:

  • Social Security Number (if applicable)
  • Driver’s license or state-issued ID (if applicable)
  • Federal tax returns, W-2s, and records of income
  • Records of untaxed income or assets, if required
  • A list of colleges you plan to attend, including Glendale Community College

Your FSA ID is used to log in to the FAFSA and electronically sign your application. Students and contributors/parents must each create their own FSA ID before completing the FAFSA.

How to Create an FSA ID

  1. Visit studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account
  2. Select “Create Account”
  3. Enter your personal information, including:
    • Full legal name
    • Date of birth
    • Social Security Number (if applicable)
    • Personal email (not a school or a relative's email)
  4. Create a username and password
  5. Set up your phone number and email address for account recovery
  6. Complete the identity verification process
  7. Save your login information in a secure location

Please allow 1–3 days for your FSA ID to be fully verified before submitting the FAFSA.

Visit studentaid.gov to complete your FAFSA online.

  • Log in using your FSA ID
  • Complete all required sections of the application
  • Add Glendale Community College to receive your FAFSA information
  • School Code: 001203
  • Review all information carefully before submitting

After submitting your FAFSA:

  • Review your FAFSA Submission Summary for accuracy
  • Make corrections if needed
  • Monitor your email and student portal for updates or additional requirements

GCC will use your FAFSA information to determine your financial aid eligibility.

 

After submitting your FAFSA, Glendale Community College may request additional documents to verify your financial aid information.

What You Should Do

  1. Log in to your GCC student portal regularly
  2. Review your Financial Aid To-Do List for any missing documents or requirements
  3. Submit all requested forms and documentation as soon as possible
  4. Monitor your GCC student email for important updates from the Financial Aid Office

Verification requirements may include:

  • Tax documents or income verification
  • Proof of citizenship or residency
  • Household size or dependency information
  • Verification of Identity

Financial aid cannot be finalized until all required documents have been received and reviewed.
