The Glendale Community College Paramedic Program is constructed to prepare students
and success in the workplace. Student experiences would be in many areas, from emergency
rooms, labor and delivery settings to internships with fire departments. Students
in the program would gain knowledge of the paramedic profession, be proficient in
basic and advanced level emergency skills, and understand disease processes as the
basis for decision making. The program promotes integration of the paramedic skills
set, with competence in communication, mathematics, and problem‐solving. Entry into
the program requires a candidate to hold an active California Emergency Medical Technician
(EMT) card and a current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider Basic
Life Support (BLS) Card. Students who complete the program receive a Course Completion
Certificate from the college and will be eligible to take the NREMT paramedic licensing
exam. Upon passing the exam, the student may apply for the California State Certification
at the Paramedic level. Students must complete all required courses for a minimum
of 31.5 units. Program Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this program, students will be able to practice professional
and compassionate communication during contact with patients, bystanders, coworkers,
and other health care providers; employ the ability to be a team leader or team member
with the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills necessary for an advanced level
EMS provider; and articulate the cognitive and psychomotor skills necessary to integrate
paramedic concepts learned through this program, in all emergency situations.
This certificate does not satisfy the major requirements for the Associate in Science
degree.
