Hello! My name is Romy Griepp, they/them, and I'm an adjunct faculty member in the Sociology department. Currently, I teach sections of Introduction to Sociology, Honors Introduction to Sociology, Social Psychology, Marriage & Intimate Relationships, and Global Issues.

As of Fall 2025, I am GCC's LGBTQ+ Community Advocate. I am the accessible, dedicated, and confidential point of contact for GCC students, staff, and faculty who need personalized support & resource referrals. Please return in the near future to find relevant links and contact information specific to this role (note: until information is updated, email me with any questions, comments, or concerns).

My academic history started at GCC, graduating in 2016 with my AA in Social Sciences. Next, I graduated from CalStateLA with my BA in Sociology and Psychology. Finally, I earned my MA in Sociology with an emphasis on Queer Pedagogy. I'm trained as a qualitative and mixed methods researcher, with experience investigating queer pedagogy and young adult literature, as well as collegiate mental health and emotional well-being.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, where I continue to live surrounded by my beloved family, friends, and my two cats Lucky & Buffy. My previous careers include working as a law firm assistant, coffee shop training manager, and book buyer & event coordinator for a local bookstore. Outside of GCC, I explore California beaches, listen to Yebba, and learn new art mediums (I hope to teach art classes at local community centers in the future!)
